My massive notes for a general run
Route & Info: This is mainly for a New Game Normal Run.
Obviously, take the quickest possible route through levels, getting Kilgore and Durga.
Italic Text is for New Game+ runs but probably isn’t that useful.
I suggest you read all the text for an idea of the run. If you have any suggestions, fixes and other gumph, please tell me.
Weapons, Accessories, Items and Suggestions - New Game Only
Durga – takes 15 seconds or so to get, I’m almost certain it does enough damage to warrant getting, especially on Beloveds and bosses, not to mention the lava immunity (which also works in panther).
Whip – A good item, possibly worth getting for the help with flying enemies like Harmonies, but I think stiletto is good enough. Unsure ~
Odette – I don’t think I need these. Panther is faster and fire claws give lava immunity.
Spending Halos – Stiletto (20k?), Air Dodge (20k), Crow and Bat Within (available after Chapter 6) and Moon when available. Red lollies will be a wise purchase, especially for bosses. Dark rosary beads are great, but unsure if faster for the entire run. I definitely have it equipped some times though. Gaze will possibly make bosses faster. Should have more than enough money for these if you’re not getting hit.
Crow Within – As of right now, I don’t know if this is necessary, but I’m sure you will use it for skips at some point.
Tetsuzanko – Some people love this move for the instant wicked weave. I’m undecided.
Angel Attack – Does not count toward time gained. You should aim to get 40 points every round for a Red Lolly.
Moon Pearls – If you have plenty of left over money, buying all of these at the shop can make parts of the game slightly quicker and easier.
Kilgore – ESSENTIAL for the Kilgore glitch.
Angel Arms – Tuba and Staff own groups. Bow owns big enemies. Usually unnecessary when you have Kilgore. They give lots of combo points for halos too.
PANTHER EVERYWHERE ZOOOOOOOOOOOM NNNYYEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOMMMMM
Combo It may be necessary to keep up your combo as much as possible early on to get enough halos. This depends on how much time you lose (which I think you’ll lose time if you don’t) and how many halos you need.
Pre-Game
Change camera speed and if possible, un-invert rocket/gun controls for preference~
Prologue: Verse 1 -Unsure of how fastest to do this, Angel arms I suppose, Staff + Kick. Make sure you have max magic charge for torture in Verse 2.
Verse 2 – Use all magic to torture. 3 Charges = 3 tortures = done.
Chapter 1: Get the LP or don’t, it’s up to you.
Need – 20k by Gates of Hell for Stiletto Verse 1 - Sprint to Key room, pick up key and skip enemies.
Verse 2 - Water gap can be jumped with Panther. Break door and go up. Run down hallway, buy stiletto.
Verse 4 - Fight at fountain.
Beloved – Angel weapons? Unsure on fastest way.
Verse 6 - Run straight through next room with Panther. Fight enemies without (can stiletto skip this?)
Verse 7 - Fortitudo – Don’t run to the other witches on the bridge. PKP + Shoot, Reflect with Moon for extra damage?
Verse 8 -Beloved at Bridge – PKP owns it, no hurry for first phases, just kill it by first smash against Gate. For Phase two kill as fast as you can.
Chapter 2:
Verse 1 - Jeanne - ON PS3 IT’S POSSIBLE TO HIT HER WITH WICKED WEAVES AT THE START DUE TO THE LOAD TIME. Unfortunately, this is very hard to reliably time due to variance between attempts. Get close and attack. PPKP is very effective, almost a guaranteed hit. In Witch Time, PPPKKK does most damage (maybe). Moon counter attacks give a lot of witch time, use accordingly.
Verse 2 – Skippable but torture a Staff wielder grab the staff then skip.
Verse 3 – Use spin kick to deal max damage. If a bow spawns, use it to kill the beloved and big enemies.
Verse 4 – Dodge tram, run to wreckage if possible, kill things.
Verse 7 – Courtyard. Fight them. Get LP for sword.
Verse 9 – Kill things then use witch time statues to get across. You can Panther jump across without needing to use the bridge.
Verse 10 – Just kill the boss and don’t screw up the QTE. Taunting boss and comboing it gives big halo rewards. Do this if safe/require halos.
Chapter 3:
Verse 1 – Not sure about this. Shoot them; I think angel arms go through the fire shields. Use witch time and torture attacks to kill quickly~
Verse 3 – Run a lot.
Verse 4 – Kill a dog.
Verse 6 – Run and remember to do the QTE.
Verse 7 – Kill two dogs.
Verse 8 – Completely skippable. Run past them all.
(ALTERNATIVE COURTESY OF VARDINATOR @ SDA)
“Well, I found a Panther Within related trick in The Burning Ground for an IL or NG+ run. Basically, as the Panther, if you jump and then dodge out, you get this huge speed boost which is great for clearing gaps. Like, for example, the broken bridge. Normally, you'd have to enter Paradiso to get the hour glass to repair the bridge. However, it's possible to jump across. This is even more effective when combined with Crow Within.”
If this works, skip to verse 12.
Verse 9 – (Whip LP is here if you decide to get it)Just kill these enemies. You can jump the water spouts with a panther double jump and an air dodge to land on the other side.
Verse 12 – Run right across the bridge, ignore enemies then do the QTE.
Chapter 4:
Verse 1 – Fortitudo:
I’m really not sure how to do this one quickly. You can use witch time and knock fireballs back. I think the whip can also reflect ~. An easy boss, but remember to tap shoot to do more damage. Phase 2 is simple. When he’s sitting in the middle of the stage, you can beat him safely. You may have a Moon by now, if so, reflect all his fireballs with that.
Fire Durga or Odette will be no worries about lava. Use big glowing deadly attacks and kill him and remember to reflect fireballs with moon.
Chapter 5: Get Durga
Verse 1 – Skip~
Verse 2 – Kill Grace and Glory. Pick up the dropped claws (if this isn’t 100%, use a torture to be safe) and kill the remaining G with these. I suggest killing the blue one first as it seems to be more annoying. Apparantly, if you have durga on feet and set to fire, you can dodge and K to do the spinning fire claw, charge this and it will one-hit kill both if it lands.
Verse 4 – I think this is skippable aside from the fairness. Try and end with full magic if it’s unskippable.
Verse 5 – Avoid the floating heads. Kill the Grace and Glory in the same way as earlier (or a faster way if I have one) then kill the harmonies. If you have whip, use that, if not shoot. Don’t use Torture as it takes a while. The LP is here somewhere…
Verse 6 – Kill the two Ardours.
Verse 7 – Not sure if skippable, I think so with double jump and stiletto. Definitely skippable with panther and crow.
Verse 9 – Another G&G Fight.
Verse 11 – Climb the ramp. Get LP halfway up. I suggest against jumping over the wind serpents in panther as this can go horribly wrong, it’s much easier/safer to just dodge them. Bat dodge will put you right back into Panther. (not 100% on this). Kill the inspired. It is possible to deal considerable damage when it is on the ground, but I don’t know the exact method I used.
Verse 12 – Pretty sure you can skip this, but not 100%. Verse 14 – Don’t use panther for this first part as you’ll die as you miss a jump. Someone told me you shouldn’t jump off the third platform, but instead wait for a prompt. I’m not sure how this could be faster, but I will investigate. Kill Jeanne. Remember PPKP~. This time, you can own her face with your awesome weapons.
Between chapters – Buy the new techniques: Bat and Crow within if needed.
Chapter 6:
Verse 1 – Kill the two Ardours. Make sure you get a heavy sword.
Verse 2 – Kill two inspired. Shoot them and run to where the first one lands. Use the heavy sword to deal massive damage. Repeat with the second one, remembering to use the K move for silly damage.
Verse 3 – Dodge spikes and use panther for maximum speed.
Verse 5 – G&G again. If fire-claw spin -> Charge works, use it again.
Verse 6 – Kill things. Try and avoid seeing Cereza getting hit to save the seconds from the mini-cutscene.
Verse 7 - I don’t completely know how damaging these guys works. Sometimes they only take lamp damage, other times they take all damage and sometimes they take none. I don’t really know. Research ~. I think you can just run straight to the gates without have to hit the beloved also. Unsure.
Verse 8 – Pew pew pew pew.
Verse 9 – Kill/Chase. Nothing special here so far.
Chapter 7:
Verse 1 – Temperantia
Phase 1 – Kill this thing. There is a fast way of doing it that is totally different from how I do it. Look at youtube vids.
Phase 2 – Evil Rosary does crazy damage to the head here. Unsure if it damages the shield generator things.
Chapter 8:
Verse 1 – Make sure you have max magic for Verse 2. You can reflect with moon instead of car jumping. Rockets work well here too.
Verse 2 – Kill the Joys. They’re super easier. Standing on the side of the road means you won’t get hit by cars. Sometimes cars interrupt you, or knock Joys around so this is preference.
Verse 3 & 4 – HOLD FORWARDS. TRY NOT TO GET HIT. CURSE THIS HORRIBLE STUPID AND SHITTY LEVEL. I’m giving leeway here for single segments because how much this sucks. Don’t ever go on the left side as if you hit a car, it is death time.
Verse 5 – Kill 3 Braves. I can’t even remember what these are.
Chapter 9 – Get Kilgore! Missable LPs in verse 1 and verse… 9?
Verse 1 – Kill things.
Verse 3 – Kill more things.
Verse 4 – Run away. Use panther.
Verse 5 – get the key parts. If confident open all chests and kill all enemies at once. Kill them on the raised grass so the golem can’t hit you. You should definitely go for killing all enemies at once here. Verse 6 – KINSHIPS! KINSHIPS! KINSHIPS! Use Dark Rosary (if you have it) as it kills all missiles for you. Jump on the ships and enjoy killing the best bosses ever.
Verse 8 – Dodge tentacles and kill joys. You fun hater you.
Verse 10 – If there is a Gates of hell before here and after getting the LP (pretty sure there is), go get Kilgore and enjoy the rocket fest. Kill Golem with Kilgore glitch. Stay close to avoid the bird form as it is harder to damage and wastes time.
Chapter 10
Verse 1 - Kill 3 Joys. Kilgore combo will kill a joy.
Verse 2 - Pretty sure you can sprint to the next bridge and avoid this.
Verse 4 - Kill the Harmonies.
Verse 5 - Courage and Temperance fight. Kilgore them.
Verse 6 - Enchants inside spinning building.
Verse 7 - 3 Kinships. Jump on them and KILGORE THEM.
Verse 8 - Gracious and Glorious fight. KILGORE… you get the picture.
Verse 11 - Kill the Beloveds and Inspired enemies quickly.
Chapter 11:
Verse 1: Iustitia
All I can suggest here is when running along the tentacles/neck, use bat within dodges so you don’t leave panther form. Also, if your rock gets smashed, I’m 99% sure falling and countering will get you back to a rock faster to continue the fight.
Chapter 12:
Verse 1 - Run through room and kill any enemies.
Verse 2 - 2nd room, falling off the crates and jumping back up to the ramp. G&G fight here. Use instant kill move if possible.
Verse 5 – Kill the Decorations (party pooper)
Verse 8 - Jeanne fight. Remember the Motorbike phase. Should be easier now. Kilgore combo works well if you purposely miss the first hits.
Verse 9 – Fight an affinity. Forgotten what this is too.
Verse 10 – Put the harm in Harmony.
Chapter 13:
Verse 1: Sapientia. Try and hide your boner from this awesome boss from nearby people.
Phase 1: I don’t think there is a specific way to do this quickly. Wait, there is. KILGORE TIEM.
Phase 2: All I can suggest here is to use a wicked weave attack to hit him when he pulls out of reach just before he pushes you back to do extra damage. If that works.
Chapter 14:
Verse 1 & 2 – Rocket time. Save Magic for before bosses. There is an accessory that helps you spam them. Use that. Eternal something. Verse 3 – Difficult Jeanne. Same sort of tactics as before. 99% sure catching and throwing the rocket is faster.
Chapter 15:
Verse 1 - DON’T hit the statues and skip this.
Verse 2 – Kill Decorations/Dears/Ardors
Verse 3 – Kill Braves
Verse 4 – If it works, remember the awesome one hit charge for Gracious and Glorious
Verse 5 - 2 Joys
Verse 6 – Enchants. Grace and Glory
Verse 7 - Affinities
Verse 8 – Temperantia fight on the guns. Use your best button mashing to kill him faster. You can dodge without having to leave the gun seat.
Verse 10 – Iustitia rematch. Do what you did before.
Verse 11 - In basement near Jubileus statue. DON’T GO HERE or you’ll trigger it.
Verse 13 - Golem fight. He has annoying centipede now which makes this harder. I don’t have a quick/effective way.
Verse 14 - Sapientia fight and QTE (run with panther form). Don’t have a quick way.
Chapter 16:
Verse 1: Father Balder. Remember watching this cutscene? It took forever. What were they thinking?
Phases: Balder is always the same. Remember to do the countering game with the satellite. You don’t really have to dodge the building, but it looks nicer. If you can do the Stiletto into sword flurry (the flurry from the PPPPP combo) and resulting wicking weave, you will deal massive damage here. Aside from that, Wicked weaves and dark rosary and stuff.
Epilogue
Verse 1-3 Motorcycle ride up the rocket. Holding forward makes you faster again. I think.
Verse 4 – I think you can skip this by running past things in Panther.
Verse 6 - Jubileus
Phase 1
If you don’t die, you can use the Kilgore glitch and make this fight go very very quickly. Dodge the attacks and hit the faces. Panther punting makes you invincible, like torture attacks do.
In the fire area, there is a lot of lava so put on your immunity shoes. I have no advice for the other arenas. The Lightning one is horrible but for speed you need to jump to the faces.
Phase 2 - Here, just dodge the final punch for witch time and Kilgore them. You can also hit the fists briefly as they land.
Avoid the black hole. The stupid annoying silly insta-death move. You can jump over the Blue Vortices or get hit by one and dodge the next attacks as Cereza. You’ll have enough time to break out of Cereza form and dodge the final punch.
Phase 3 - The yellow bar phase is rather straight forward. Dodge and bitchslap. Bitchslap with crazy rockets.
Verse 7 – Stiletto the statue a lot.
Verses 8–10 - I’m not sure damage dealt affects this or if it just ends after a certain time. Either way, there’s no real rush here, but try and make it entertaining.
Dance and enjoy winning.
Killing Enemies and little tips ~ Should be updated a lot.
Affinity A (Staff)/Affinity E (Poleaxe)/Applaud B (Staff)
- Use regular combos or Angel arms. Remember a torture will guarantee a weapon drop. The front facing torture attack (the iron maiden) and the air torture attack (the pulley… hook, claw thing) are faster than the guillotine so always try and use these. This applies for all affinities and applauds.
Affinity B (Trumpet)
- Keeping these alive give easy dodges for witch time or rosaries procs. Use regular combos or Angel arms.
Affinity C (Sousaphone)
- The Tuba/Sousaphone is great at killing groups if you have it. This enemy is also great at killing its entire force with the attack. Usually faster to Torture it and use the Tuba yourself though. Like the Affinity B, You might like to keep this alive for dodging.
Affinity D (Mace)
- Use regular combos or Angel arms.
Applaud A (Bow/Sword)
- Kilgore these when possible. The Bow is great for taking out Beloveds, Applauds, Graces etc. Use it if you are fighting these before Kilgore.
Ardour A/B (Heavy Sword
- Hit them from behind when possible. The Heavy Sword is very powerful against big slow enemies like Beloveds and Inspireds.
Beloved
- Easy to dodge and Kilgore. Jumping and attacking their backs makes them easier to hit. Bows are very effective here.
Braves
- Just a smaller Beloved with less health. Sometimes it’s faster let them merge then Kilgore the result.
Dear
- Won’t ever really kill you, but can be a pain to kill quickly as the whip will nearly always pull the decorations instead. They are often in avoidable verses though.
Decorations
- Very low health and easy to kill. AoE them.
Enchant
- Whip works well to pull them to you and they’ll nearly always dodge wicked weaves. Grabbing is slower than just kill them.
Fearless (blue)/Fairness (red)
- They can stop you in the middle of a combo with a swipe. This has the same timing every time so it’s easy to avoid. Fairness is the one with the roar and the fireballs.
Golem
- Bird and Centipede forms are annoying. You will always have Kilgore when fighting this.
Grace (Fire)/Gracious
- The easier one of the two; it’s slow and stupid and much easier to avoid. You can actually kill this guy with a sword using PP, dodge, PP, dodge until infinity. Grace dies quickly when you use Glory’s claws.
Glory (Lightning)/Glorious
- The annoying one – I’m split between killing Grace first because it’s easy, then killing Glory with the claws or the other way round. I kind of prefer killing Glory first as Grace is more likely to do nothing, or do the incredibly easy to dodge spinning move. I’m not sure if one is quicker than the other. Glory dies quickly when you use Grace’s claws.
Harmony
- Using the whip grab followed by an air kick to knock them to the floor then follow with a combo. You can also use just the kick if no whip is the preferred route. The Torture attack takes a while and the chainsaw isn’t particularly great at killing other harmonies.
Inspired
- Fireballs don’t always hit if reflected. Just shoot them until the fall and prepare a combo for when they land. Heavy weapons work here.
Irenic
- These are the hell cars. They’re only here because I like them.
Joy
- Kilgore is a one shot. Taunting these will lower downtime between dodges if you need them. Kilgore will one shot them. The torture attack does a lot of damage to them.
Kinship
- Dark Rosary owns the missiles for you. Kilgore owns the ship itself. Some attacks are annoying to dodge and they can be iffy to climb on but meleeing the glowing bit is the way to go. I imagine bows are great here too but I’ve no idea if you every have one for a Kinship fight.
