The 1% category for Metroid Fusion is the opposite of 100%, where the difficulty comes from health and missile management. It is very difficult to finish a single segment run without saving, and thus it is recommended that a player aspiring to learn 1% first start with Any% to learn the core basics of the game, then try a segmented 1% speed run.

The low% speedrunning category is 1% because major upgrades do not count towards percentage, and there is exactly one expansion that is nearly impossible to skip (skipping it, and thus 0%, is only possible on TAS as of now). This missile tank is notoriously named BOB, and is the missile tank in sector 3 that is in a morph ball tunnel that Samus is required to roll through. Besides BOB, the player skips all other expansions, ending with 99 health, 15 missiles, and 10 power bombs.

The core route for 1% is the same as Any%, except the player skips all expansions except for the BOB missile tank. However, much of the difficulty in in 1% isn't just the boss strategies themselves, but specific room strategies that are difficult to do.

Room Strategies

Boss Strategies

Arachnus

The 1% strategy for Arachnus is the same as any%, except to fire missiles only if the player knows he will hit Arachnus with the missile. It is best to save 1 or 2 missiles for the core-x. Otherwise spam beam shots to damage Arachnus.

Serris

The 1% strategy for Serris is exactly the same as the any% strategy, as the fight does not require missiles outside of the core-x, and Serris does relatively less damage. If the player has trouble dodging Serris, refer to the any% strategy here (insert link).

BOX

Mega-X

This strategy vastly differs from Any%, as without any energy tanks, Samus cannot reliably 4HKO Mega-X with flare shots without dying. As such, it is best to predict where Mega-X flies and hit it with charge shots from far away. The key is to not take damage during the fight.

BOX-2

Ridley

The easiest and most reliable strategy to defeat Ridley in 1% is the corner strategy.

While waiting for the fight to begin, charge your beam and keep B held the entire fight. Aim diagonally down and hold L the entire fight, without ever pressing up. Start space jumping in the upper left corner; Ridley will not be able to hit you here, and will simply hover back and forth as long as you time your space jumps correctly. R-shoot the beam diagonally down-right while Ridley stupidly hovers below you and repeat.

Be careful not to touch Ridley's tail during his death animation!

SA-X

Omega Metroid

The fastest way to defeat Omega Metroid in 1% is the exact same strat as in Any% and 100%: After luring one swipe, stand in the correct spot and spam your ice beam so it constantly staggers. The main difference is that one hit will kill you.

If you are having trouble with this strategy, then either practice getting into the right spot, or run back and forth. Running back and forth is nearly as risky too, however, because there are many more chances for Omega Metroid to swipe you, so I highly recommend just mastering the Any% strategy.
