Category description

Warps on island 1, 3 and 5 are used. Using a warp has the effect of skipping ahead to the next island.

The videos below is the result of initial route planning done on the pal-version. It's meant as a starting point for someone interested in speedrunning this game. Several of the videos are not optimized. For example, some of the later levels make use of the flying dinosaur to fly over the whole level. This makes for much safer trips through some difficult levels, but at the cost of speed (flying is slower than running with one of the ground dinosaurs). Don't hesitate to add links to alternative routes or replace videos that are unoptimized!

EDIT: The current sda-run, http://speeddemosarchive.com/AdventureIsland2.html, uses many routes that are faster than the routes shown here.

Level-by-level description

The overall route is identical with the tas-route (see Additional Resources), but adapted for someone playing in real time. These videos were made a long time ago. They are now published just as a reference that hopefully can be of use as a stepstone for someone who wants to make a serious effort of speedrunning this game. With the memory mostly faded of the reasons for doing what's shown in the videos, only very limited comments are provided to the individual levels.
The game does not keep track of level names. The names below are invented just to correspond to the order they are played with warp route.
By combining the time of all videos, one gets 29:41. That corresponds to a time of 24:45 on ntsc.
