Gold Routing
In the any % category, making detours to pick up relics or upgrades may cost a little time, but it will ultimately make the run faster. The tricky part is deciding what to collect and what to skip.
This chart includes how much gold can be collected from each stage and this may be helpful for determining a route.

Invincibility Frames
Somewhat like Batman for the NES, enemies can't hurt you during their invincibility frames. This can be used to your advantage to change certain attacks together. In the image below, you can hit Mole Knight twice during a charge without taking damage.
